The Top Menopause Symptoms No One Talks About
Menopause is a big change. We all know about hot flashes and night sweats, but there are other symptoms that can sneak up on us. Let’s dive into the top menopause symptoms no one talks about. Ready? Let’s go!
1. Burning Mouth Syndrome
This one I had never heard of. Ever feel like your mouth is on fire? 😲 OMG that would be terrible. When I was doing my research I found this one called Burning Mouth Syndrome. It can make your mouth, tongue, and lips feel hot and uncomfortable. No clear cause, just the joys of menopause!
2. Formication
My skin has been extra itchy and sometimes I do feel like I’ve gotten some bug bites but this menopause symptom called Formication sounds like something from a sci-fi movie, right? It’s actually a creepy, crawly feeling on your skin, like bugs are under there. Yikes! This itching can be super annoying.
3. Joint Pain and Stiffness
Well this is one that I have experienced. Have you had any aches and pains that feel like arthritis? That’s menopause too. Our joints can get stiff and sore, making it hard to move around. I always thought it was because we weren’t exercising enough or maybe too much but these aches and pains can get worse with menopause. Time for some gentle stretches and focused work on keeping things moving and mobile! If you’re reading this in August of 2024 it’s Mobility month in the Be Healthy Enough Community. 4. Electric Shock Sensations
Ever feel a zap in your head or neck? These electric shock sensations can be surprising. They often come right before a hot flash. It’s like a little warning signal. Thank goodness I haven’t had this symptom…have you?
5. Gum Problems
Hormones can mess with your mouth too. Your gums might bleed, become more sensitive, or even start to recede. Keep up with good oral care and see your dentist regularly.
6. Body Odor Changes
Noticing a different smell? Yup I was just talking to my girlfriend about this. For me it’s not super bad, it’s just different. Hormonal changes can alter body odor. Your sweat glands are working overtime. Stay fresh with regular showers and a good deodorant. I’m loving LUME deodorant in the Peony Rose Scent. It works really well and doesn’t stain your clothes like some of the other healthy deodorants I’ve tried.
7. Allergies
Suddenly sneezing more? Menopause can make allergies worse or bring new ones. Your immune system is on high alert. For me it happens when I exercise. My nose starts running. It can be very annoying when trying to film workout videos. Keep those tissues handy!
8. Dizziness
Feeling dizzy or like the room is spinning? This can happen during menopause too. It’s unsettling but usually passes quickly. I’d quickly talk to my doctor about this one. If it does happen stay seated until it stops.
9. Hair and Skin Changes
Well darn it this is the worst for me, thinning hair, dry skin, and even more facial hair can happen. Your beauty routine might need some tweaks. Moisturize and use gentle products. I have many of my favorite products in my Amazon Store. Everything from facial razors to hair products to my favorite skin care.
10. Mental Health Changes
Mood swings are just the start. You might feel more anxious, irritable, or even depressed. It’s more intense than typical mood swings. I never had anxiety issues until I started having hot flashes – which was the peri menopause roller coaster. Things calmed WAY down when I was on HRT but since going off (because of breast cancer and I’m still trying to see if I can go back on) my anxiety is back again. It happens in the evening and a glass of wine helps for a short period then makes it worse…so I’m trying some other things I’ll let you know about later (THC).Don’t hesitate to seek support.
