Age is just a number, especially for women over 50 who are focused on embracing a lifestyle that promotes vitality, longevity, and overall well-being.

In a world that’s constantly evolving, women over 50 are prioritizing their health and well-being more than ever. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, they understand the importance of adopting healthy habits that can enhance their vitality and longevity.


As we step into 2024, I asked my community what habits they are embracing to have a vibrant and fulfilling life.

1. Mindful Movement and Exercise

Gone are the days of high-impact workouts being the only path to fitness. Women over 50 are favoring a blend of exercises that prioritize flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health.  Picking up those dumbbells is becoming “non negotiable” due to the importance of keeping the body, bones and metabolism strong.  Yoga, Pilates and walking are gaining popularity for their ability to improve mobility, balance, and overall fitness without the stress on joints.   Here is an article that explains more .

2. Nutrient-Rich Eating

A balanced diet remains a cornerstone, but now there’s a heightened focus on nutrient density. More women are embracing higher protein (even for plant-based diets), Mediterranean-inspired meals, and incorporating superfoods rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients. The goal is not just to eat less but to eat smarter for sustained energy, to fight off disease and improved health.

3. Prioritizing Mental Health

Mental well-being takes center stage. I’ve been overrun with ads for mental wellness apps this year. Practices like meditation, mindfulness, and journaling are gaining traction among women over 50. These practices offer tools to manage stress, improve sleep, and enhance emotional resilience, fostering a healthier mindset overall. I’m currently using Aura to help with my sleep AURA APP

4. Quality Sleep

Understanding the importance of sleep, women are prioritizing quality rest.  While I am struggling with my sleep, through experimenting, I’ve learned personally that creating a bedtime routine, optimizing my sleep environment (still looking for the perfect sheets), reducing sugar and wine, and disconnecting from my phone before bed are habits that show up as positive when it comes to not just sleep duration but my sleep quality (I use my FitBit App to track my sleep score).

5. Getting Enough Water

Staying hydrated is fundamental for overall health. Women over 50 are mindful of their water intake, as it supports digestion, joint health, and skin elasticity, while also aiding in detoxification.

6. Regular Health Screenings and Check-Ups

Preventive health measures are crucial. Women over 50 are making it a habit to schedule regular health screenings and check-ups. From mammograms to bone density tests, staying proactive about health screenings aids in early detection and intervention.

7.  Mindful Aging

Embracing the aging process with grace and confidence is a mindset that many women over 50 are adopting. Focusing on self-acceptance, embracing life experiences, and staying socially active contributes significantly to mental and emotional well-being. It’s not an easy thing to do but something I’m working on this year too.

8. Stress Management

Last year I did a Strong Core and Belly Fat Challenge and dug into the causes of that over 50 waist expansion.  Stress is a leading cause of belly fat. This has gotten a lot of attention this year and women over 50 are implementing stress-management techniques like reducing long endurance cardio or super intense exercise, deep breathing techniques, spending time in nature, pursuing hobbies, and seeking social support to help navigate life’s challenges and maintain a balanced lifestyle.   

9. Embracing Technology for Health Tracking

With advancements in technology, women are leveraging smartwatches, health apps, and wearable devices to track fitness goals, monitor health metrics, and stay accountable to their well-being routine.
